(On this page we have laid out the information already given in Compost Info 1 as a series of brief points with explanations below them.)
Main features
 * Sturdy, robust and substantial design * Easy Access with removable front boards * Non-toxic Pressure Preserved Timber * Easy to assemble * Completely freestanding * 3ft.(90cm), Convenient working height * Wood insulates and retains heat * Lids stop too much rain entering * aerating-Bases and Air Ducts aid air circulation to the base Compost Bins triple slatted system
* Sturdy, robust and substantial in design
3"(7.5cm) square posts are used in the design of these bins. They are built to last and can cope with large amounts of compost which at times can be quite heavy. The first Compost System we designed was 15 years ago! and it is still being used today. Also, the composters can cope with and retain garden soil. From time to time we are asked to make lower ones to act as planters. A 'Bespoke' lower height composter can also double up and be used as a planter.
* Easy Access with removable front boards
All the front boards slide out from the top which gives full access to the front of the Compost System. There is a removeable restraining bar across the top which when filling can be lifted off and when in place it holds the sides rigid and keeps the front boards in place. There is also a front bar across the base which holds the base of the sides rigid
* Non-Toxic Pressure Preserved Treated Timber
The wood is pressure preserved and could last over 15 years! We have been making this style of Compost System for this length of time and the first one made is still in use today! The pressure preserving chemical used is one of the HRDA (The Organic Organisation) 'Safer Alternatives' and not CCA which was removed from circulation in June 2004.
* Easy to assemble
The 2ft. (0.6m) square single and double Compost Systems can be delivered fully assembled free of charge. Please advise us if you require this service by e-mail before delivery takes place. All the other Compost Systems are sent partially assembled. When we assemble the smaller ones it can take longer for a 'kettle to boil' than to put one together! Often the largest ones take longer to transport to the end of the garden than to put together.
* Completely freestanding
There are no post holes to dig! The Compost Systems are completely free-standing and sit directly on the ground. Soil is usually the best surface on which to site a Compost System as this encourages the ingress of worms and microrganisms from the existing soil. Worms help the composting process.
* 3ft.(90cm), Convenient working height
The 3ft. (0.9m) height is the same as a kitchen work top surface and if all the front boards are in place it means the Compost System is easy to fill.
* Wood insulates and retains heat
Wood is a beautiful and natural product to incorporate into a garden setting. Unlike plastic or metal it is porous and allows the compost to breath. It is a good insulator and helps retain the heat which kills weed seeds and any diseased material.
* Lids stop too much rain entering
Rain cools the Compost Systems contents down and washes out nutrients and air. (For further information about lids see the link in the lefthand side panel)
* aerating-Bases aid air circulation to the base of the Compost System
A certain quantity of air is important for the production of good quality compost. Too little and the material won't compost satisfactorily.(For further information about aerating-Bases see the link in the lefthand side panel) .
